Wrist Curls with Side Pressure

Blending a wrist curl with a lateral pressing motion trains cupping and side-pressure strength together in one drill — closer to how these two elements actually combine in a real match than training either in isolation.

Muscles Worked

Wrist flexors, biceps

Equipment

DumbbellArm-wrestling table

How to Do It

  1. 1Hold a dumbbell with forearm on the table
  2. 2Curl the wrist while pressing slightly sideways
  3. 3Lower with control

Sets & Reps

3-4 sets · 10-12 reps

Coaching Tips

  • This blends cupping and side pressure into one rep
  • Control the negative (lowering) portion slowly

Common Mistakes

  • Doing the wrist curl and the side pressure as two separate, disconnected motions instead of blending them into one continuous drill
  • Reducing the weight so much to manage the combined movement that neither component gets real training stimulus
