Fixed-Bar Wrist Curls with Side Pressure

Holding an isometric wrist curl against a fixed bar while applying side pressure trains the wrist to maintain its angle under lateral load — a specific, easy-to-overlook strength requirement in a real match.

Muscles Worked

Wrist flexors, biceps, brachioradialis

Equipment

BarbellArm-wrestling table

How to Do It

  1. 1Grip a fixed (non-moving) bar at table height
  2. 2Curl the wrist while pressing sideways into the bar
  3. 3Hold the position without letting the wrist collapse

Sets & Reps

3-4 sets · 10-15 seconds hold

Coaching Tips

  • The bar shouldn't move — this is about holding your angle under load
  • Never let your wrist angle collapse

Common Mistakes

  • Letting the wrist angle drift under the lateral load instead of actively resisting it, which is the entire point of this exercise
  • Skipping straight to this combined drill before building a strength base with standard wrist curls and side pressure drills separately
