2x2 Handle Finger Containment Hold

The 2x2 handle finger containment hold trains the same finger-flexor strength as the standard finger hold, but on a thick 2x2 handle instead of a gripper — closer to the actual diameter and feel of trapping an opponent's fingers during a hook.

Muscles Worked

Finger flexors, forearm

Equipment

Hand gripper

How to Do It

  1. 1Grip the 2x2 handle with fingers wrapped fully around it
  2. 2Squeeze and hold, keeping fingers locked in place
  3. 3Release slowly

Sets & Reps

3-4 sets · 10-20 seconds hold

Coaching Tips

  • Try different hand positions to hit the grip from multiple angles
  • Builds crush grip strength for containing an opponent's fingers

Common Mistakes

  • Using a handle that's too thin, which trains a different grip pattern than the one this exercise is meant to build
  • Letting the wrist collapse instead of keeping it locked while the fingers do the holding work
